This vintage lidded sugar bowl, inspired by patterns like Birmingham Silver Company’s BIM1, reflects the refined craftsmanship of traditional silver-plated tea service pieces. Its softly rounded body is balanced by ornate, scrolling handles and raised on delicate feet, while the fitted lid is crowned with a decorative finial — a detail that adds both elegance and sculptural presence.

Silver-plated tea services became especially popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when formal tea rituals were an important part of social life. Pieces like this sugar bowl were designed to accompany teapots, creamers, and trays, offering both beauty and function at the table. The Birmingham style, known for its graceful curves and ornamental details, reflects a period when even the most utilitarian objects were elevated through design.

Now thoughtfully repurposed, this piece has been transformed into a hand-poured, double-wicked candle, filled with 9.1 oz of natural soy wax. When lit, the dual flames create a soft, even glow, reflecting off the silver surface and highlighting its form and patina. The lid can be removed while burning and replaced afterward, preserving the vessel’s original silhouette.
