Mashad hat eine lange und reiche Geschichte in der Teppichherstellung und ist bekannt dafür, Teppiche von guter Qualität in allen möglichen Größen und vielmals in größeren Größen herzustellen. Die in diesen Teppichen verwendete Wolle stammt aus Khorassan und gilt als eine der besten Wollqualitäten des Landes. Dadurch fühlen sich Mashad-Teppiche besonders weich an.

Mashad-Teppiche ähneln oft Keshan-Teppichen. Sie haben in der Regel ein großes zentrales Medaillon in roten und dunkelblauen Farbtönen, manchmal mit einem deutlichen, violetten Farbton, geschmückt mit helleren floralen Herati-Mustern.
