Detailed information on Aït Tigga\'s Symbolic Olive Flatweave

This symbolic Zanafi was woven by the artisans of the village of Aït Tigga.

Aït Tigga is located about 29km east of Anzal. Anzal is home to a female weaving association that has many family ties to the village of Aït Tigga. Up until a year ago the only way to travel to Aït Tigga was via an off-road route. With their lack of access to the outside world they would usually send their finished rugs to the women of Anzal to sell. This piece consists of 100% live wool, which was carded, brushed and spun by the women of the association.

The naturally dyed olive color is derived from a combination of pomegranate skin and indigo stone.

The Zanafi weaving technique comes from the High Atlas Mountains.
