The Niwa Collection designed by Office of Tangible Space for Aelfie aims to be a new classic. Niwa - meaning “pure place” in Japanese - is a term for a garden. The collection is a series of studies in form, color and texture to create the perfect warm backdrop for any living space. The forms blend rectilinear and organic forms and break the standard shape and size constraints of a typical rug. The hand-knotted pile is also intricately hand-carved, inspired by the raked lines in a Japanese rock garden.

The pile is high and thick - perfect under your bare feet and under your head for a nap. The colors range from neutral tan and gray for a subtle touch to bold burgundy, blue, green, and mustard for a place-making accent.

The Niwa Collection is primarily made to order, though there is limited stock kept in house. For out of stock items, the lead-time is 120 days.

Will this shed? Yes. But not forever and, in our opinion, a few months of shedding is totally worth years of fluffiness underfoot.

Aelfie rugs are designed in Brooklyn and handmade by artisans in India.
