This petite French bistro table, circa 1900, retains its original round white marble top enclosed by the original brass-banded rim, raised on a cast-iron pedestal with a tripod base. The baluster column rises to three splayed legs adorned with palmette and rosette details, finished in a later black paint. The marble shows light surface marks, while the brass edge has small dings and oxidation that catch the light and enhance its timeworn charm.
This piece reflects the late 19th- to early 20th-century taste for durable café and garden furniture, central to French café culture where marble-topped tables were a familiar sight on terraces and boulevards. The neoclassical ornament is typical of French foundry work, while the tripod format ensures stability. Marble tops with brass rims were favored for their cool, hygienic surface, combining elegance with utility.
