Maria Margarita Lidia was the daughter of Elpidia Becerril and Ranulfo Maya. My aunt was a professional stylist who worked in beauty salons in Polanco and Colonia del Valle. Unlike my mother, she loved to dress up, wear makeup, follow fashion trends, and dance. She adored traveling; when we went on vacation with her, it was impossible not to visit every tourist spot. She would always say, “We came to explore, not to sleep!”

After a few years, she was diagnosed with diabetes, and like all the resilient women in my family, she learned to live with it gracefully.

My aunt loved cooking and crafting. On the anniversaries of my mother’s passing, we would celebrate with chiles en nogada. She once prepared up to 150 chiles with the help of my other aunts because, fortunately, we are a large family. For my birthday, she would cook my favorite dishes—mixiotes, lomo, pozole, and all the delicious meals you can imagine. I remember her calling me and saying, “Tany, let’s organize a posada! What would you like to include?” She was an artist at heart, decorating altars for Day of the Dead and transforming her home into something magical at Christmas.

Today, I want to honor your memory by giving your name to one of my designs from the Corazon Divino Collection and to tell you how deeply we miss you.
